The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20

God Almighty has spoken the truth.
