The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
