Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
