The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
