Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
