The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
