Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
