The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
