The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
