The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
