The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
