۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
