The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
