The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
