The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
