The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
