The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
