The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
