The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
