The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
