And [remember] when you, [O Muhammad], left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle [of Uhud] - and Allah is Hearing and Knowing - 121 Two parties of you were about to fail, though Allah was their Guardian, and in Allah believers put all their trust. 122 And assuredly Allah had succoured you at Badr while ye were humble. Wherefore fear Allah that haply ye may return thanks. 123 And Recall what time thou saidst to the believers: sufficieth it not unto you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down. 124 Nay, but if ye persevere, and keep from evil, and (the enemy) attack you suddenly, your Lord will help you with five thousand angels sweeping on. 125 God wrought this not, save as good tiding to you, and that your hearts might be at rest; help comes only from God the All-mighty, the All-wise; 126 That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed. 127 You have no say in the matter if He pardon them or punish them, for they are unjust. 128 And to Allah only belongs all whatever is in the heavens and all whatever is in the earth; He may forgive whomever He wills, and punish whomever He wills; and Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. 129
