In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
