The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
