The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
