The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
