The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
