Is it not a lesson for the successors of the past generations that had We wanted, We could have punished them for their sins, sealed their hearts and deprived them of hearing? 100 Such were the towns whose story We (thus) relate unto thee: There came indeed to them their messengers with clear (signs): But they would not believe what they had rejected before. Thus doth Allah seal up the hearts of those who reject faith. 101 We found most of them untrue to their covenants, indeed We found most of them to be defiant. 102 After those We sent forth Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles, but they dealt with Our signs unjustly. Observe, then, what happened to the mischief-makers. 103 And Musa said: O Firon! surely I am an apostle from the Lord of the worlds: 104 Approved upon condition that I speak concerning Allah nothing but the truth. I come unto you (lords of Egypt) with a clear proof from your Lord. So let the Children of Israel go with me. 105 He answered: 'If you have come with a sign, show it to us if you are of the truthful' 106 Thereupon he cast down his rod, when, lo it was a serpent manifest. 107 Then he drew out his hand, and it appeared luminous to all beholders. 108
