Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
