The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
