Al-A 'araaf 14 of 24
The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
