۞ He it is who created you from a single soul, and He created therefrom his spouse that he might find repose in her. Then when he covereth her she beareth a light burthen and fareth about therewith; then when she groweth heavy the twain call upon Allah their Lord: if Thou vouchsafest us a goodly child, we shall surely be of the thankful. 189 But when they were given a healthy son, they started ascribing to other powers a share in what God had bestowed on them. But God is above what they ascribe to Him. 190 Do they associate (with Allah in His divinity) those who can create nothing; rather, they are themselves created? 191 And the false deities are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves. 192 If you call them to guidance they will not follow you; equal it is to you whether you call them, or whether you are silent. 193 Those whom you invoke other than Allah are creatures like you. So invoke them. and see if they answer your call, if what you claim is true. 194 Have they feet to walk with? Have they hands to hold with? Have they eyes to see with? Have they ears to hear with? Say, "Call upon those you associate with God as partners, then all of you contrive against me and give me no respite. 195 "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the Book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous. 196 They on whom ye call beside Him have no power to help you, nor can they help you, nor can they help themselves. 197 And if ye (Muslims) call them to the guidance they hear not; and thou (Muhammad) seest them looking toward thee, but they see not. 198 Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them). 199 When satan provokes you seek refuge in Allah; He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 200 If the God-fearing are instigated by any suggestion of Satan, they instantly become alert, whereafter they clearly perceive the right way. 201 Even though their (devilish) brothers would like them to continue in error, and would not desist. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace, so that you may receive mercy. 204 And remember your Lord within your hearts humbly and with fear, and softly with your tongues, morning and evening, and do not be of the neglectful. 205 Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate. ۩ 206
True are the words of God the Almighty.
