Joseph's brothers came to him. When they entered his court, he recognized them. They did not know him. 58 And when he furnished them with their provision, he said: Bring to me a brother of yours from your father; do you not see that I give full measure and that I am the best of hosts? 59 But if you do not bring him to me, you shall have no grain from me, nor shall you ever approach me again." 60 They answered: "We shall try to persuade his father to part with him, and verily, we shall do [our utmost]!" 61 And [Joseph] said to his servants: "Place their merchandise in their camel-packs, so that they may find it there when they come home, and hence be the more eager to return. 62 When they returned to their father, they said: "O father, a further measure has been denied us. So send our brother with us that he may bring more grain. We shall take care of him." 63 He said: "Shall I trust you with him with any result other than when I trusted you with his brother aforetime? But Allah is the best to take care (of him), and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!" 64 And when they opened their belongings they discovered that their merchandise had been returned to them. They said: O our father! What (more) can we ask? Here is our merchandise returned to us. We shall get provision for our folk and guard our brother, and we shall have the extra measure of a camel (load). This (that we bring now) is a light measure. 65 He [Jacob] said, "I will never send him with you until you give me a solemn pledge, before God, that you will indeed bring him back to me, unless you yourselves are trapped [in a compulsive situation]." And when they had given him their solemn pledge, [Jacob] said, "God shall be witness to all that we say." 66 "O my sons! Do not all of you enter [the city] by one gate; enter by separate gates. I cannot help you in any way against God; judgement is His alone. In Him I have put my trust. In Him let the faithful put their trust." 67 And when they entered as their father had enjoined them, it availed them not against Allah at all; it was only a craving in the soul of Ya'qub that he satisfied; verily he was endued with knowledge, for We had taught him; but most of the people know not. 68
