The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
