The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
