The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
