The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
