Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
