Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And when thy Lord said to the angels, 'See, I am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded. 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 Iblis said: "My Lord! In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them and lead all of them to error, 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 (Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
