We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 Allah said: then get thee forth therefrom; verily thou art one damned. 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 "Till the predetermined time." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 Over My true servants you will be able to exercise no power, your power will be confined to the erring ones, those who choose to follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
