And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He replied: 'I will not prostrate to a mortal You have created of clay, from molded mud' 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 until the day of a known time." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
