And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
