And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 Therefore go forth with your followers in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round, and go forth whither you are commanded. 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And the (cities were) right on the high-road. 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
