Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot). 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
