AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
