They will question thee concerning Dhool Karnain. Say: 'I will recite to you a mention of him. 83 Verily We established his power on earth, and We gave him the ways and the means to all ends. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He submitted, “Regarding one who has done injustice, we shall soon punish him he will then be brought back to his Lord, Who will punish him severely.” 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed another way, 89 until he came to the rising-place of the sun, where he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 after this to the middle of two mountains where he found a people who could hardly understand a single word. 93 They said, "O Dhu'l-Qarnayn! Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land, so may we pay you tribute on condition that you set a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank. 95 "Bring me blocks of iron." At length, when he had filled up the space between the two steep mountain-sides, He said, "Blow (with your bellows)" Then, when he had made it (red) as fire, he said: "Bring me, that I may pour over it, molten lead." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 He said: this is a mercy from my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord cometh, He shall make it powder, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ Upon that day We shall leave them surging on one another, and the Trumpet shall be blown, and We shall gather them together, 99 And We shall present Hell that day for Unbelievers to see, all spread out,- 100 whose eyes had been veiled against Our Quran and who were not able to hear (its recitation). 101
