Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
