KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
