The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. 1 Never cometh there unto them a new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it while they play, 2 their hearts being set on other concerns. The wrong-doers whisper to one another: "This person is no more than a mortal like yourselves. Will you, then, be enchanted by sorcery while you see?" 3 Say: "My Lord knoweth (every) word (spoken) in the heavens and on earth: He is the One that heareth and knoweth (all things)." 4 Aye! they say: a medley of dreams; aye! he hath fabricated it; aye! he is a poet; so let him bring us a sign even as the ancients were sent with. 5 Of the villages We destroyed, there was not one that believed. What, will they not believe? 6 We never sent (anyone) before you except men to whom We revealed to them. 'Ask the people of the Remembrance if you do not know' 7 We had not made them such bodies that would not eat any food nor were they immortal. 8 We then fulfilled the promise to them, therefore rescued them and whomever We willed, and destroyed the transgressors. 9 We have revealed a Book to you which is admonition for you. Will you not then understand? 10
