۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
