۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
